AVILOO Brings Its Used-EV Battery Warranty to Norway and Denmark

The two most electrified car markets on the planet now have access to a financially backed, independently verified battery warranty for used EVs. AVILOO announced on 22 July that its Battery Warranty is live in Norway and Denmark - the latest step in a European rollout that began in France and Sweden in June and swept through eight more markets, including the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands, in July.

The timing is not incidental. These are not emerging EV markets hedging their bets. They are markets where the used-EV fleet is already large, growing fast, and increasingly the concern of fleet operators, leasing companies, and remarketing platforms trying to price and move vehicles at scale.

Why Norway and Denmark, and Why Now

The numbers make the case plainly. Nordic countries led Europe in BEV registration shares, with Norway and Denmark already reaching shares of 98% and 80%, respectively, in January-June 2026. That near-saturation of new car sales has been compounding for years, which means the used fleet is now substantial. Norway's electric vehicle fleet has surpassed one million vehicles. Denmark's EV parc reached the milestone of more than 500,000 battery-electric cars on Danish roads during 2025.

The growth rate in Denmark is particularly striking. Compared to the same period last year, the share of electric cars in the vehicle fleet increased by 47.9% in Denmark, while Norway remains the clear leader with the highest absolute share. That pace of fleet expansion creates a proportionally large cohort of vehicles cycling through their first and second resale - exactly the moment when battery health becomes a commercial question, not just a technical one.

What the Warranty Actually Does

The product is built on AVILOO's FLASH Test - a three-minute, manufacturer-neutral battery health check that assesses real battery capacity, thermal management and charging performance, covering 96% of EV models currently on the road. That breadth matters for fleet operators running mixed-brand inventories.

For each vehicle, AVILOO uses its global diagnostics database to calculate an individual State of Health limit - the minimum the battery must maintain at 20,000 kilometres within the one-year warranty period. The floor is vehicle-specific, not a blanket threshold, which means the model accounts for the actual degradation trajectory of that pack rather than applying a generic cut-off.

If the battery falls below that limit, buyers receive 23,000 kr in compensation in Denmark, or 34,000 kr in Norway, plus a full refund of FLASH Test costs. The warranty is issued as a standalone document, separate from AVILOO's existing battery certificate - meaning it can sit alongside, rather than replace, whatever health documentation a dealer or remarketing platform already provides.

The Fleet and Remarketing Angle

This is where the story gets more interesting for operators than for individual buyers. AVILOO Connect, a new digital dashboard for professional EV remarketing, gives dealers, fleet operators, and remarketing platforms a single interface to manage battery test lifecycles from incoming inspection through to warranty issuance. That workflow integration is the part worth paying attention to.

Dealers can offer this warranty to buyers as a credible, independently underwritten selling point, without carrying the risk themselves. For leasing companies and fleet operators processing large volumes of returns, that risk transfer is the commercial logic. The financial exposure sits with AVILOO's underwriting, not with the remarketing entity.

The company's existing client base signals where the product is already embedded. Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Porsche Holding have each selected AVILOO as their preferred third-party battery testing provider for dealerships across Europe. Leasing majors Ayvens and Arval use AVILOO as part of their end-of-lease remarketing process. Auction groups BCA and Cox Automotive have integrated the FLASH Test into their European operations. Norway and Denmark, with their outsized EV fleet concentrations, are logical extensions of those existing European-level agreements.

The Broader Data Infrastructure

The warranty's actuarial credibility rests on the scale of AVILOO's diagnostics database. An individual State of Health floor is calculated using AVILOO's proprietary diagnostics database - described as the largest battery health dataset in the world. That dataset is what allows the company to set vehicle-specific SoH floors rather than relying on manufacturer-reported figures, which are neither independently verified nor standardised.

Norway's EV market share reached 98% of new car registrations in the first half of 2026, with the total EV fleet surpassing one million vehicles.

Denmark's EV fleet grew 47.9% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, reaching over 500,000 battery-electric cars on the road.

AVILOO's Battery Warranty pays out 34,000 kr in Norway or 23,000 kr in Denmark if a battery's State of Health drops below its individual threshold within 20,000 km over one year.

The FLASH Test's three-minute run time and manufacturer-neutral methodology also address a practical constraint in high-volume remarketing: you cannot afford a lengthy diagnostic process on every vehicle in a lease-return batch. A test that runs in the time it takes to walk around the car and check the tyres is a different proposition from one that requires a workshop slot.

Where the Rollout Now Stands

The warranty launched simultaneously in Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Ireland and Switzerland in July, following successful rollouts in France and Sweden in June. Norway and Denmark, announced on 22 July, bring the total to thirteen European markets in under two months.

AVILOO CEO Marcus Berger described Norway and Denmark as "two of the most mature EV markets in the world," adding that "buyers deserve real certainty on the single most expensive part of their car, backed by data, not guesswork," and that the expansion is about "giving Nordic dealers and drivers the same level of protection and trust we've already built across the rest of Europe."

The pace of the rollout suggests AVILOO is treating the warranty less as a standalone consumer product and more as infrastructure for the used-EV market - something that needs to be present in every significant market before the volume of aging first-generation EVs makes the absence of it conspicuous. In Norway and Denmark, that volume is already here.
